High Tech Outdoors for Arrow of Light Scouts

Adventure Overview

Long ago, camping tents were heavy and made from cotton canvas which weren't waterproof. They could mold or rot if left wet. However, advancements in technology have improved the manufacturing process to make modern tents lightweight, water-resistant, breathable, and resistant to mold and mildew. These technological innovations not only enhance tents but also provide us with digital devices that assist in navigation, learning, and ensuring safety.

Safety Reminder

Before initiating any activity, utilize the BSA SAFE Checklist to guarantee the safety of all participants involved.

All Scouting activities for official members should be familiar with the Guide to Safe Scouting and related program literature or manuals.

Adventure Requirements

Choose one activity for each requirement below:

Requirement 1:

In collaboration with an adult, use a weather app or website to inspect forecasts for outdoor events and discuss necessary preparations based on the forecast.

Requirement 2:

With assistance from an adult, locate a knot-tying application. Choose one knot to learn and practice tying it using the app.

Requirement 3:

Converse about how technology has enhanced camping equipment.

Requirement 4:

Consider innovative ways in which technology could improve camping gear used in one of your outdoor activities.

Cub Scouts suggest improvements or innovate their own camping equipment designs through brnstorming, creation or video demonstration.
